Body
In 2016, the Facilities Division commissioned a comprehensive facility assessment that included the Department of Transportation (Transportation), Maintenance and Operations garage building located at 1121 Shakori Road, South Lake Tahoe, CA. The study identified the Shakori garage as having building systems that are at the end of life after 42 years in harsh mountain weather conditions along with having significant structural deficiencies.

In 2020, the Board authorized the replacement of this facility and project management and architectural services have been ongoing. The plans, specifications and bid documents presented would provide for the replacement of this aged facility.

Upon approval by the Board, Procurement and Contracts Division and the Facilities Division will finalize the bid schedule, advertise for bids, and return to the Board with a recommendation for award at the conclusion of the bid process.

ALTERNATIVES
The Board could choose to not approve a complete facility replacement; however, County liability and employee safety would be a concern with the building being identified as having structural damage and deemed at end of life.
