DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
President Gerald Ford declared November 3, 1974 through November 10, 1974 as the first “National Emergency Medical Services Week.” This annual observance continued for four more years. It was re-instituted by The American College of Emergency Physicians in 1982, which moved the observance of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week from November to September. In 1992, the observance of EMS Week was moved to the third week in May.

National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to publicize safety and honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's "front line." This year, the annual EMS Week will be celebrated throughout the Nation beginning May 15, 2022 through May 21, 2022. Each of the five days has a theme that represents the diverse nature of EMS:

· Monday - EMS Education Day
· Tuesday - Safety Tuesday
· Wednesday - EMS for Children Day
· Thursday - Save-A Life Day (CPR & Stop the Bleed)
· Friday - EMS Recognition Day
